Artwork speeds up GDSII Viewer by 10X

Artwork Conversion has increased the display speed of our popular GDSVU by a factor of 10 to 50 times - depending on the complexity of the GDSII file.

GDSVU/W Ver. 1.4 uses a new technique called display filtering that determines which polygons should be displayed and which should be discarded at any particular level of screen magnification. Because this calculation is much faster than the time it would take to otherwise render and display all of the polygons in the viewing window the display is now much much faster.

How much faster? It depends on several items - the more small polygons in the database the faster this improvement makes GDSPLOT. Since speed is generally an issue on large complex files the improvements are on the order of 10 to 40 times....We also assume that you can store the entire GDSII file in RAM.

As one zooms-in the smaller polygons are displayed; but since the smaller viewing area means that the majority of the polygons in the database fall outside of the window display speed is maintained at both high and low magnification.

User Control

The user determines the mimimum polygon size by setting a value in pixels from a simple dialog box.

Platform

We've incorporated the new display filter into GDSVU for Windows intitially. Having proven it on Windows we will add it to our UNIX Motif based XGDSVU in the next 30 days. (We support SunOS, Solaris, HPUX and AIX on UNIX)

Price and Delivery

GDSVU on Windows costs $495 and XGDSVU on UNIX costs $995 per license. Existing customers who are under support can get the new fast version at no cost by downloading from Artwork's WEB site.
