Sample license.dat file

The license file for programs secured by Flexlm has typically been called license.dat (although it can be called anything you like if you have properly configured the start up of lmgrd ...)

In order to license any of Artwork's programs you must have received keystrings from us and you must add these strings to the license.dat file. An example is shown below for your reference.

Imagine that you have ordered from Artwork Conversion 3 floating licenses of ASM 3500 and that your flexlm license server runs on Solaris. You already have flexlm running for other programs (such as Cadence or Avanti) and you want now to update your flexlm to license the ASM 3500 programs.

  1. Go to the directory where flexlm is installed. You will find the key file called license.dat there (unless you have a non standard installation ...)

  2. Open the license.dat file with the text editor of your choice (note: most sysadmins will of course save a backup copy first.) The file may already contain quite a few lines for the various software programs from different vendors.

  3. Carefully copy and paste the keystrings and daemon directive that came to you by email. They might look something like:

    You will have to customize the DAEMON line -- replace the path /opt/flexlm with whatever path points to the location where you copied the artwork daemon onto your machines disk. Then save the file.

  4. Reread the License File. Use the utility lmutil to force a reread of the license file. lmgrd will find the new daemon directive, start the artwork daemon and pass it the FEATURE line so that it will begin granting licenses for that feature.
