Package manufacturers have hundreds or even thousands of existing package designs in inventory - but they don't have the time or expertise to redraw them to incorporate intelligence. Many of these designs were not generated in-house but rather by subcontractors or vendors.

To address this, Artwork developed the Tagger program which is used with the Wirebond for generating bond document drawings. Tagger uses pattern recognition routines to identify the fingers, locate the bond point and number the fingers. By scaling and re-centering as needed the package can be made “intelligent” with very little effort.

What Constitutes a "Smart" Package Drawing?

A smart package drawing has the following characteristics:


Each package finger includes a point or area defining where the wire should attach. This point or area is associated with a pin number. This is normally accomplished using Tagger's Tag Fingers routine and BF Num routine.

The package drawing should be centered around 0,0. The easiest way to do this is to first find the center by snapping from the mid point of each line defining the paddle. Then use the MOVE command to move this intersection to 0,0.

The package must be drawn at 1:1 scale. The best way to do this is to measure some known dimension - for example, the width of the die attach paddle. Then apply a scale factor to the entire drawing so that the known dimension matches the measured dimension. You can use any appropriate units but you should note the units on the title border.
